America Reads

America Reads Work Study program through the University of Idaho has been successful placing sophomore to senior level students in tutoring positions throughout Latah County since 2000.

Autism Supports

To improve educational services to children with Autism by building the capacity of school personnel and teams to assess, set goals, determine placement, and implement instructional strategies and supports across a variety of environments within the school.

Autism Supports Online

This online course, originally presented in a series of two-day workshops introduces the Autism Supports model to school teams in a condensed online format.  The course is available free of charge to anyone and is also offered for one credit of Professional Development at university rates.  Materials can be used with school team members, including classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, as well as parents.

This online course utilizes:

  • streaming video content – best for desktop viewing
  • downloadable reading and study materials
  • downloadable video transcripts

Children and Youth with Deaf-Blindness

The purpose of the Idaho Project for Children and Youth with Deaf-Blindness is to enhance the educational services provided to children and youth (birth - 21), who have combined vision and hearing impairments. The Project provides statewide technical assistance and training to parents and service providers to meet the educational needs and improve results for children and youth who are deaf-blind.

Distance Education

The University of Idaho College of Education offers a series of World Wide Web courses designed to provide advanced expertise in teaching students with low incidence and severe disabilities. These master's level courses are available to prospective students holding a bachelor's degree and holding an Idaho Standard Exceptional Child Certificate, School Psychologist, or Speech/Language Pathologist licenses, or the equivalent certification or licensure from another state.

Idaho AgrAbility Project

The Idaho AgrAbility Project promotes success in agriculture for people with disabilities and their families by combining agricultural know-how with disability expertise. Assistance is provided where needed to make sure agricultural workers who have disabilities can continue to earn their livelihoods in agriculture and participate fully in rural community life.

Idaho Assistive Technology Project

The Idaho Assistive Technology Project (IATP) is a federally funded program administered by the Center on Disabilities and Human Development at the University of Idaho. The goal of the IATP is to increase the availability of assistive technology devices and services for older persons and Idahoans with disabilities.

Idaho AT4ALL

Idaho At4All is a free service from the Idaho Assistive Technology Reutilization Project, in partnership with the Living Independence Network Corporation (LINC) and several other participating programs. The website lists a variety of used equipment available for sale, give-away or loan, including wheelchairs & scooters, walkers, personal care items, items for vision and hearing impairments, hospital beds, computers, adapted vehicles, and more!

Idaho Help is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the network of resources available to families in rural and urban areas of the state.

Idaho National Service Inclusion Project

The Idaho National Service Inclusion Project provides technical assistance to Idaho’s national service organizations and individuals who have a disability who would like to volunteer for national service.

Idaho Person Centered Planning

The Idaho Person Centered Planning Project is a service delivery project funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The project is an innovative approach to person centered planning designed to be a robust, sustainable, and collaborative statewide program based on best practices. Person Centered Planning Specialists assist individuals with disabilities envision and implement long-term plans based on their individual needs and preferences. The plans are created to empower people with disabilities to lead more self-directed lives by helping them utilize community members, friends, and family who are dedicated to helping them set and achieve goals.

Idaho Training Clearinghouse

The Idaho Training Clearinghouse (ITC), a website listing all current special education related trainings across the state, is sponsored by the Idaho State Department of Education to link special educators and parents of students with disabilities with training opportunities across multiple agencies and parent groups. The ITC has three primary goals:

  1. to inform stakeholders of statewide training opportunities and expedite electronic registration through an online training calendar;
  2. to gather evaluative feedback on the usefulness and impact of trainings to inform future planning of inservice trainings in the state; and
  3. to support distance education opportunities by creating digital media and online tools that increase accessibility to needed training and foster online learning communities.

Idaho Training Cooperative

The Idaho Training Cooperative (ITC) is a collaboration between the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare (DHW) and the Center on Disabilities and Human Development (CDHD). The ITC develops, coordinates, and implements the certification process for Developmental Specialists for Children (3-17) (DS for Children) and Intensive Behavior Intervention providers (IBI).

IdahoSTARS

IdahoSTARS is a statewide program designed to assist parents by offering child care referrals and information about quality child care settings and to assist child care providers with a variety of professional development opportunities and resources. The voluntary professional development system is aimed toward individuals who work with children ages birth to 8 in a variety of settings utilizing inclusive practices, including:

  • Family and group child care
  • Child care centers
  • Head Start programs
  • Public and private schools: pre-K through 3rd grade
  • Higher education: community and tribal colleges and universities
  • Community agencies serving children and families.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an approach to working with students who have challenging behaviors. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is an individualized, ongoing process with three key components: preventing, teaching, and reacting. Prevention means that we change circumstances that tend to lead to challenging behaviors. Teaching means that we replace challenging behaviors with new skills. Reacting means that we plan consistent, proactive responses to challenging behaviors.

U of I Child and Youth Study Center

The University of Idaho Child & Youth Study Center provides a broad range of psychological assessment and counseling services for children and youth in the Palouse region. Through a collaborative effort between the University of Idaho and Washington State University, our mission is to provide the highest quality psychological services for children and youth with mental health needs and/or developmental disabilities, while providing an exceptional training opportunity for graduate students.

Archived Projects

Behavior Consultation

Behavior Consultation consists of one-to-one sessions with therapists trained to work with adults with developmental disabilities who experience maladaptive behaviors. Eligible persons receive an approved number of Behavior Consultation hours per week from the Idaho’s Developmental Disabilities Program for development and implementation of a Positive Behavioral Supports Plan. Behavior Consultants work between 2-6 hours per week with clients and their teams, providing PBS training and oversight.

Even Start Family Literacy Program

The Even Start Family Literacy Program, funded by the Idaho State Department of Education, promotes family literacy for low-income families with children under the age of 8 by: Supporting parents in the educational growth of their children; Preparing children for success in life through early childhood education programs; Preparing adults for success in the workplace by offering assistance with Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or English as a Second Language (ESL). All services offered by Even Start are free to participating families. Even Start closely collaborates with Lewis-Clark State College, the Moscow School District, the Potlatch School District and Potlatch Community Library.

Indian Education Outreach Project

The Indian Education Outreach Project was funded by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA/Office of Indian Education Programs) housed at the Center for School Improvement (CSI) in Albuquerque, NM. This CDHD project was a part of a university and tribally controlled community college network throughout the United States. The project offered professional development training (with college credit) and technical assistance to administrators, teachers, and parents teaching and living within tribal communities.

Partners in Policy Making

The Idaho Partners in Policymaking program will teach you how to speak up for yourself and for other people with disabilities. It will also teach you how to get people who make the rules to listen to you about the things most important to you. Partners in Policy Making program is maintained by Idaho Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Support Broker Training

My Voice, My Choice is a Self-Directed Support System that adults with developmental disabilities can now choose in Idaho. Through this course you will learn about Self-Determination, Person-Centered Planning, and the Ethics and Professionalism required as a successful Support Broker. Support Broker Training is currently maintained by Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
