Self-advocacy is when we as people with disabilities speak for ourselves and participate in our communities as citizens to the fullest extent of our abilities.
One of the best ways to become involved as citizens is by participating in our own organization: the Idaho Self-Advocate Leadership Network (SALN). In SALN we meet other self-advocates and mentor and support each other, learn new skills and have fun!
Through SALN we have become leaders! Through SALN we serve on government boards and committees. We tell our stories and speak out on issues such as education, transportation, housing, health care and employment. We attend conferences and organize events.
Today, there are SALN chapters in Boise, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Falls, Moscow, Nampa, and Pocatello. Self-advocates in Emmett and Twin Falls are working to start chapters, too. Please join us!
