The Center on Disabilities and Human Development (CDHD) is in the process of developing its next five year plan of goals and priority activities. As we work to create our strategic plan for fiscal years 2018 to 2022, it was imperative for us to reach out to you. A survey was developed and offered to CDHD stakeholders to get their input to identify areas you believed should be our priorities.

Background: The CDHD, Idaho’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) operates a variety of programs aligned to its mission and five year goals. We carry out activities to meet our stated goals by engaging in activities across five core function areas:

  1. Interdisciplinary Preparation of Students;
  2. Community-based Training (professional development) and Technical Assistance;
  3. Direct and Community-based Services;
  4. Research and Evaluation, and
  5. Dissemination of information.

In cooperation with our community advisory group (CAC), we have developed a series of questions based on the five core function areas described above. We ask you to rate each question based on how important each topic is to you, your family, and/or for people you serve in your organization. How can the Center on Disabilities and Human Development (CDHD) at the University of Idaho focus its energies to maximize the potential of people with disabilities, their families, and those at risk, as well as support and collaborate with our partners across the state and nation?

CDHD Mission: The University of Idaho Center on Disabilities and Human Development advances evidence-based policy and practice for people with disabilities, their families, and communities through exemplary and innovative education, outreach, research, and service.

Guiding Principles: People with disabilities and their families have the right to:

  • Live, Learn, work, and play in their communities;
  • Be equal partners in research, program development, and the systems change process;
  • Access services that emphasize strengths and abilities;
  • Make decisions, take risks, and define the quality of the life they choose;
  • Be equal partners in building inclusive and interdependent communities.
