September 3, 2025 By CDHD Pictured: Tapped Out by Dan Wright artAbility: In memory of Dan Randal Wright A new academic calendar has begun, bringing student trainees back to the Center to help in continuing their good work. This means programs like artAbility can begin again, offering valuable social and artistic outlets in the Moscow community. The artAbility project would not be possible without the generosity of our donors – those who provide financial and in-kind support so we can continue to offer free art workshops for adults with disabilities. This year, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Wright family, who donated funds in loving memory of Dan Randal Wright. In honor of Dan’s life and artistic spirit, his sister Tawni and brother-in-law Shawn (a longtime Idaho CDHD employee) have generously donated $1500 to support the artAbility program for the 2026-27 project year. Their contribution will help fund project coordination and provide stipends for local artists working directly with participants and students – continuing Dan’s legacy of creativity, compassion and community spirit. We are deeply grateful for this meaningful gift made in Dan’s memory. “Dan was born on March 3, 1952 in Spokane, Washington. A beloved son, brother, husband and friend, Dan passed away on January 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, humor and kindness,” writes Shawn. “A true contemporary Renaissance man, Dan was an artist, cartoonist, musician, writer and self-proclaimed comedian. Dan was a deeply spiritual soul who cared profoundly for humanity and was known for keeping cash in his car so he could help anyone in need. “He graduated from University High School in 1970 and later earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Washington State University. He dedicated much of his professional life working with clients with disabilities, helping them discover joy, laugher and creative expression.” Many of Dan’s creations were displayed at his memorial service and later sold at auction.
