Children of all ages and abilities are invited. There’s no equipment required – assistive technology will be provided. Even better, no experience is needed! Courageous Kids Climbing is a group of rock climbers based in central Idaho who volunteer to show children with disabilities how to rock climb. The group was established in 2014. They have been providing a meaningful climbing experience for children with disabilities in the Moscow community for the past six years. Each year, Idaho CDHD trainees and UI climbing wall staff join them to help host a fun and inclusive event for local kids of all ages. What to expect If you’ve never been to a Courageous Kids Climbing event, don’t worry. It’s super easy to join in on the fun! Remember that registration is required, so be sure to contact Julia Bailey to reserve your child’s place. On the day of the event: 1. Check in at the sign-in table. You will receive a name tag and be introduced to your climbing instructor. All instructors and climbing wall staff are experienced rock climbers. They’re fully prepared to answer any questions and help your child climb. 2. Your child will be fitted with appropriate climbing equipment. Your instructor will assist with fitting a climbing harness and all appropriate assistive technology. They will also provide training on how everything works as well as climbing the wall. 3. Once fitted and trained, the climbing wall awaits! Your child is ready to climb the wall freely for the full hour, with staff on-hand to ensure the safety and fun of all participants.
