March 27, 2025 By CDHD FREE screening: Hearts of Glass on April 5 Join us for a FREE, accessible screening of the award-winning film Hearts of Glass and community discussion: April 5, 2025 2-4 pm, doors open at 1:30 pm Kenworthy Theater Download our flyer Hearts of Glass is a 68-minute documentary that explores the first year of Vertical Harvest – a state-of-the-art greenhouse in Jackson, Wyoming that provides produce to local residents and restaurants while offering meaningful, competitively paid employment opportunities to people with disabilities. It is a story of innovation, social entrepreneurship, disability rights and sustainable, local food production. The film has been screened in 46 states and on more than 490 channels, resulting in more than 4,500 broadcasts! This is the first time it will be in Moscow as part of our Healthy Active Lifestyles project. “Planning this event has been nerve-wracking but exciting!” said Kincaid Moberly. Kincaid is part of a CDHD trainee-led team working on the event. He and Isabella Gilmore are co-leading the planning efforts. “I'm glad to be a part of the team bringing Hearts of Glass to the Palouse area because I know that our community has a strong foundation in supporting individuals with disabilities. I hope that our engagement with the community will bring us together to center individuals with disabilities in our efforts to create a more equitable workforce and sustainable future.” The film will be followed by a community discussion with film director Jennifer Tennican, a self-advocate from Vertical Harvest and members of the local community. We’ll be discussing the film as well as the need and steps to creating a sustainable network of hydroponic farms across the Palouse. “Planning this event has opened my eyes to the interconnectedness of our community. I have seen how everyone can work together to make meaningful change,” said Isabella. “Everyone has a voice that they can bring to the conversation and whether they know a little or a lot about hydroponics, disabilities, or employment, we value their input!” We are hoping to spark interest and facilitate connection within the local community to help develop a network of hydroponic farms throughout the area. The idea is to promote sustainable, local food production as well as equitable, integrated employment opportunities much like Vertical Harvest. Everyone is welcome to attend the free screening and participate in the community discussion. We’re looking forward to seeing all your smiling faces and hearing your invaluable input in how we can bring hydroponics to the Palouse!
