Trove launches for creators with disabilities

'Tis the season for gift giving and a new online marketplace may just have something for everyone on your list!

Trove launched on Thanksgiving Day. Similar to Etsy, this digital platform provides a space for creators to sell their wares. It just so happens that all the sellers on Trove are talented artists and creators with disabilities.

The idea was born with the Meador family. Belle Meador, a young woman with autism, discovered a joy of making greeting cards in her mid-20s. Her father, Dave Meador, saw a need for his daughter to market her cards to a larger audience than other digital channels would allow. With nearly $2 million in seed money – including $350,000 of the Meador’s own money – Dave launched Trove.

This is a not-for-profit e-commerce website for sellers with disabilities, where every purchase supports them in showing off their creativity and finding financial independence. It provides an opportunity for members of the disability community to turn their passion into income, develop professional skills and gain recognition.

The site is built on a low fee structure where sellers are charged a 3% commission fee for selling on the platform. It was incorporated as a 501(c)3 to help ensure it targets sellers with limited annual income, providing an opportunity for a supplemental earnings.

Trove is also an inclusive and accessible platform. This digital space prioritizes accessibility and ease of use for sellers and buyers alike. Sellers can take advantage of personalized assistance and support to help them in all aspects of running their business. This includes order fulfillment, delivery and customer service.

The site kicked off with three creators, including Belle who sells her greeting cards and custom-made jars of slime. Other makers are definitely encouraged to join in on the creativity and fun.

For buyers, the site not only offers handmade, one-of-a-kind goods, but it’s socially conscious spending. Each purchase supports the individual creator, while contributing to a more inclusive economy with opportunities for underrepresented communities.

Visit Trove to find out more about this exciting new platform, learn how to become a seller, or find a unique, handmade gift this holiday season.
