Healthy Active Lifestyles (HAL) will host another semester of our Healthy Cooking series thanks, in part, to the Moscow Opportunity School Foundation grant.

This foundation provides funding to support community opportunities for people with disabilities in the Latah County area. This marks the second award from the Foundation, with previous funding helping the CDHD to host a screening of the film Hearts of Glass for the first time in North Idaho.

This year, funding will be put toward our Healthy Cooking series, which offers cooking classes for people with disabilities. Each class focuses on helping participants learn the benefits of healthy eating while building practical cooking skills that can easily be applied at home.

Previously, HAL has offered a combination of EatSmart Idaho courses in collaboration with the University of Idaho food science lab and stand-alone classes here at the Center. While the final details of this semester’s offerings are still being finalized, we will likely combine the best of both worlds. The goal is to offer participants the opportunity to learn about healthy cooking and eating, with realistic recipes and meal plans they can easily incorporate into their daily lives.

One thing is always certain – participants can expect the same fun and educational experience. Each week, they will work in small groups to prepare delicious recipes and sit down together to taste-test their results. This course design not only provides the opportunity to build cooking skills, but it also offers the chance to socialize and learn with peers in a supportive and welcoming environment. There’s even the opportunity to take home leftovers!

Keep your eyes on the HAL website for more information about the Healthy Cooking series. We will be releasing class dates and registration information as it becomes available. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Isabella Cox (igilmore@uidaho.edu).
