What is bocce ball?

Bocce Ball is a ball sport that started in Italy. It has been around for thousands of years and is common in countries all around the world. It’s played on a soil or asphalt court between two people or two teams of up to four people each.

HAL bocce ball is a great way to get out and get active in a supportive and friendly environment! People of all abilities are welcome and there is no experience needed. Come out for the chance to meet new people, try something new and have lots of fun!

How to play

Players are divided into teams. Each team chooses their ball color and decides who will take the first turn.

A foul line is determined – players must remain behind this line for the duration of the game.

The first player will toss a small target ball called a pallino. It must remain in the bounds of the court and go past the half court line. This is the target that all players will use to play and determine the winner.

With the court and order of play set up, the first player/team starts the game by tossing their bocce ball toward the target. The goal is to get their ball as close to the pallino as possible.

The second player/team then steps up to take their turn. They toss their bocce ball, trying to get closer to the pallino than the first player. The second player will continue to toss their bocce balls until they get closer to the target or they run out of balls. When this happens, play goes back to the first player/team until they get closer or run out of balls.

Once all balls are thrown, points are handed out and a winner is determined.

Note that during the game, players can hit and move the pallino. They can also hit and move each other’s bocce balls. This makes the game more interesting and fun!

It’s super easy to learn so come on out and join us for a game of bocce! For more information, check out the HAL website or contact:
